A Thoughtful Performance Home In Northlake

Introducing one of our current projects. A thoughtfully designed residence in the heart of Wanaka, tailor-made for a family seeking both efficiency and comfort.

This compact yet high-performing home, designed by Design Base Architects prioritises airtightness and thermal efficiency within a specified budget, seamlessly integrating Passive House principles without seeking formal certification.

Strategic Performance

Through clever design and construction, we have significantly reduced energy use from 180 kW/m2 to an impressive 60 kW/m2 per annum. This remarkable achievement is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The result is a home that not only meets but surpasses the highest standards of performance.

Our meticulous approach involves exploring various construction methods, such as the conventional timber frame with counter battens and strategic employment of intelligent moisture air barriers for optimal moisture control. Leveraging thermal modelling, the designers fine-tune the house's performance, ensuring it meets the highest standards of energy efficiency.

Key features of this innovative home include a full heat recovery ventilation system situated within the conditioned space, minimising thermal bridging for enhanced energy efficiency. The design incorporates thermally broken doors and windows, strategically recessed to optimise thermal performance. The absence of carpeting not only contributes to a sleek, modern aesthetic but also eliminates potential allergens. Furthermore, a fully insulated concrete slab ensures consistent thermal comfort throughout the residence.

Experience the perfect synergy of form and function in this Wanaka home, where cutting-edge design meets sustainable living for the modern family. This family will enjoy the luxury of maintaining a temperate 22 degrees throughout the winter, thanks to the guys’ innovative approach to energy efficiency and intelligent design.
